 Day 14

Abdulaziz Khan Madrasah

First of all Assalomu aleykum my friends.I am Marjona and we start.Today is fourteenth day of our internship. The weather is hot and pleasent😉☀️We met at 10 oʻcklock in this madrasah then teacher checked diaries.

Opposite Ulugbek Madrasah there is Abdullazizkhan Madrasah. Abdullazizkhan built it in 1651 – 1652 and it is the last large Madrasah in Bukhara. The building is typical by composition, with four-ayvans yard, but with unordinary divergent fan of hudj groups after side ayvans and cupola buildings on the central axis.
It is very interesting the improvement of living lodgings, which composed of entrance hall and hudjra, and were equipped with free-places, attic storeys, wall niches for bed clothes, dishes, decorated in conformity with the taste of inhabitants, who rented these apartments during their study.Away from Poi-Kalyan ensemble we can see trade arcades, belonging to the end of 16 century Taki-Telpak Phurushon and Taki Sarraphon.
Head-dresses were sold in Taki-Telpak Phurushon : skull-caps embroidered with beads, brocade and silk, fur-fox hats, turbans. Currency transactions were accomplished under Taki Sarraphon dome, shroffs mediates in international trade affairs.

The cupolas are inimitable in their architecture and constructions. The most expressive of them is Taki Sarraphon with cruciform passage through central hall and apartments behind its beveled corners: in one room there was mosque, in another – the entrance into old Saraphon baths, in other two ones – usurer stores. Constructive basis is four massive crossing arches, you can see inside and outside.

The portal of madrasah is decorated with rich patterns, in the decoration of which was used yellow paint. There were also used different technologies during the construction of the building: carved tile and mosaic, relief majolica, carved marble, gilding.
There are pictures of Chinese dragon and bird of happiness Semurg on the walls, here you can also read poems of famous poets. Madrasah has two mosques - winter and summer, the walls and ceiling decoration is extremely luxury. In 1988 there was built museum exhibition, where were presented dervishes' staffs, carved doors, boxes and more.
In the XV-XVIII centuries the woodcarver's era prospered in Central Asia. There is an art carving in the decoration of mosques, madrasas, headstones, gates, etc. It is known that Ulughbek was not only famous ruler but the great scholar and patron of the sciences. His first madrasa was built in 1417 in Bukhara. Abdulaziz Khan Madrasah was his last monumental building in the capital of the Bukhara Khanate.

So we knew some kind of historical facts about this place. This day was very interesting for me and I think for others.

Thanks for your attention🤗💫

See you soon 👋📝
